I love eating out as much as the next person, but when you choose to lead a Paleo/Primal lifestyle sometimes it can sometimes be quite difficult. Do any of these sound familiar?
Scenario #1: My best option is a side salad…everything else is breaded or fried. Wait, who picked this place?
Scenario #2: Can I substitute…and the never ending customization. I’ve gotten some pretty priceless looks from these requests. Can I have double veg instead of the fries? No, no toast for me, thank you. Can you add chicken on top of that salad? I always feel bad asking to rearrange practically every meal and pray the kitchen doesn’t do anything funny with my food.
Scenario #3: “Well, there is always ________.” It’s your go to restaurant where there are at least 3 different options on the menu to choose from and the waitress knows your going to ask for double veg before it even comes out of your mouth. While it’s true, I am a creature of habit (Thursday isn’t called Chicken Kebab salad night at my house for nothin’) I also like to have a choice. Besides eating at the Outback 2x in 4 days while traveling because there was nothing else around is a little much…
So, what’s the solution? Making our collective voices heard. If we tell our local restaurants, and even the big chains, that we want menu options that don’t include refined grains, excess sugar, and unhealthy fats, then reward their honor of our request with our business, we can make a difference!
